Blanket a Senior in Love is a program of The HUB (formerly Faith In Action) that started in Belfair in 2007 to give gifts to local seniors who would otherwise spend the holidays alone. The HUB collects winter items including gloves, socks, scarves and blankets, which are packaged up with other holiday items, a handwritten card, gift cards for groceries and fresh fruit and vegetables that tend to be expensive in the winter months.

Teams of volunteers deliver the gifts to homebound seniors and visit with them on the eve of Christmas Eve. The HUB also hosts a holiday open house on the Friday before Christmas for everyone in the community, with food, music and dancing, and hands out the gifts to those on the list for Blanket a Senior in Love. Last year, 280 seniors in North Mason were served through this program, and the HUB hopes to reach more than 300 this year.

Clark has been heavily involved in the project for many years, faithfully delivering gifts and bringing holiday cheer to those who are homebound. He’s been a member of the board since 2011 and has served as vice president, board member at large and compliance officer. He also works on many maintenance projects at The HUB.

Biggest Challenge

For me, trying to keep things on track. For the organization, dealing with the financial end as it seems to always be in the forefront.

Best Part

The gratification that comes with knowing you are making a big impact on the lives of those that might be a little less fortunate, or alone in their lives. The smiles, the thank-you’s, the expressions of joy and the tears of joy just for visiting or providing a small bit of help.
