WSU Extension’s Regional Small Farms Program is hosting a free online webinar for farmers on the Olympic and Kitsap Peninsulas titled, “Weather Stations Webinar: A Tool for Farmers.” Gardeners and citizens interested in local weather patterns are also encouraged to register.
The webinar takes place Tuesday, June 4, from noon to 1 p.m. It will be recorded for those who cannot watch live.
This introductory webinar will showcase WSU AgWeatherNet, a free online tool that provides access to current and historical weather data, which can improve production and product quality, optimize resource use and reduce environmental impact.
Specific topics include locating the nearest weather station near you; tracking drought; horticultural uses such as growing degree days, humidity, rainfall, tracking life cycles of pathogens and pests; Olympic Peninsula weather patterns; the hydrologic cycle, stream dynamics and rainfall.
Guest speakers include Dave Brown, director of AgWeatherNet at the WSU Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser, Washington, and Bob Simmons, WSU Extension Olympic Region water resources specialist.
