The Key Peninsula may be somewhat isolated and rural, but it has a thriving and active arts community. Inspired by other areas that have been hosting art walks to great success, the local arts organization, Two Waters Arts Alliance, hosted an art walk last year — and it was such a great success, the event is back this year.
Last year, the art walk attracted more than 300 people, despite being midweek.
This year’s event, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3, will feature more than two dozen artists at seven locations in Key Center.
“It’s so exciting that we have an event to showcase the creativity of this area, as well as provide a space for the community to engage with the arts first hand,” says artist and TWAA Art Walk Chair Taylor Reed. “We’re looking forward to this event, and hope that we can continue it for many years to come.”
The event is unjuried. The work of the artists will range from glass and pottery to jewelry and fine paintings. Art will be on sale at several of the locations, and some artists will demonstrate their work as well as be available to answer questions.
At least one location — Sunnycrest Nursery — will feature live music. Other venues for the walk include the Key Center Library and the professional center next door, Blend Wine Shop, KC Corral, Close to Home Espresso and Key Peninsula Fire District’s headquarters. Refreshments will be provided.
The art walk coincides with the opening of the annual juried show of TWAA members, whose entries will be displayed at the library.
